A large house sleeping nearly 20 – a ‘garden’ with enough grounds and material to sketch forever – the beach a few hundred metres away – sunny weather.
Our home for two weeks in the summer of 2017 was the rented house La tour Merville in Calvados Normandy. A large extended farmhouse a few metres from the 12th c ruins of an old chateau with just part of one tower still standing. In the gardens and the surrounding area I took every opportunity to sketch with the very limited but versatile travel pack I take ‘on-tour’.
My travel set consists of : a satchel with a couple of gel pens, pencils and a mini watercolour set, water and a small pot plus a squirrel hair brush and finally A4 and A5 cartridge paper sketchbooks. Not forgetting sunglasses, hat and drinking water. Where possible I also take along my small travel chair.
I have added a selection of the travel sketches from my trip to Normandy below. There are additional sketches on the ‘Sketchbook’ page of this site, link below. Enjoy them, I did. > > > > > > > Sketchbook
